Shapps welcomes RBS's decision to delay repossessions

Monday, December 1 2008

Grant Shapps

Grant Shapps has welcomed RBS’s decision not to repossess the properties of customers who fall behind on payments for at least six months.

The Shadow Housing Minister said, “We strongly welcome this practical step to help prevent hard working families from having their homes repossessed.”

He encouraged other lenders to follow RBS’s lead and offer to delay repossessions.

And he stressed that this initiative comes a week after we warned that Labour's own three-month moratorium was unlikely to help because no repossessions actually occur during the initial three months period.
