Gibb slams Educational Maintenance Allowance failure

Wednesday, November 19 2008

Nick Gibb

Nick Gibb has attacked Ed Ball’s education department for presiding over yet another fiasco after they were forced to sack the firm responsible for Educational Maintenance Allowances (EMAs).

The company, Liberta, failed to deliver payments to students on time, and three months later thousands of students are still waiting for the money they’re entitled to.

Nick, the Shadow Schools Minister, slammed Ed Balls for the “shambolic administration” of this vital service:

"After the SATs fiasco, now we have the EMAs fiasco. Any large scale project run by his department seems to end in inept failure."

And he stressed, "If anything, this latest debacle is the most damaging yet as it directly undermines the educational prospects of some of the poorest children in the country….We need to know when the vulnerable students who have been so badly let down by this fiasco will receive the money they are entitled to."
