Boris Johnson has chaired his first meeting of the Metropolitan Police Authority and outlined his priorities for the police over the next four years.

The Mayor of London stressed that tackling violent crime and low level disorder will be the main priority for his administration:

“Knife crime is the most immediate policing priority and we need to build on the successes of Operation Blunt 2, as well as do more to make public transport safer, protect the capital from the threat of terrorism and ensure the Olympic Games are secure.”

Since Boris was elected in May this year, Operation Blunt 2 has seen over 2,000 knives lifted from the streets of London.

The Mayor paid tribute to the work of police, saying, "The amazing commitment and dedication that the police display everyday is something I am immensely proud of. We have huge challenges ahead, and the police are going to need our steadfast help and support.”

He also outlined a new MPA-led inquiry to explore race and faith issues within the Metropolitan Police Service.
