William Hague has called for a Privy Council inquiry into the origins and causes of the Iraq war, arguing it is what “the British people as a whole” want.
The Shadow Foreign Secretary said the case for holding an inquiry had become “overwhelming”, and issued a warning to any Labour MPs thinking of voting against an inquiry:
“If Ministers continue to argue against it they will be isolated voices, holding out against a preponderance of national opinion which embraces every other party and many members of their own.”
William stressed it would be “an error of policy, as well as of politics” not to hold an inquiry into the Iraq war.
And he confirmed that if the current Labour administration did not hold an inquiry into the Iraq war, the next Conservative one would.
William is the First Secretary of State and Secretary of State for Foreign & Commonwealth Affairs. He was heavily involved in student politics and has been an MP since 1989.
