Floods report exposes catalogue of failings

Thursday, December 13 2007

Floods

Commenting on the Audit Commission Floods Report published on Friday, which has revealed a raft of Government failings in response to this summer’s floods, Shadow Local Government Minister, Alistair Burt, said:

“Sadly this report exposes a catalogue of failings that go to the heart of Government. We must do our best to ensure that the havoc wreaked by the floods in the summer is not repeated again. Yet this research shows that despite the dossier of blunders there is no clear action plan to pre-empt another emergency. Labour need to rethink their strategy.

“What’s needed is strong leadership and a clear unified approach - both of which are sadly absent at the moment.”

Alistair Burt

Alistair is the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.
